The Idea

The Bridge Museum in Sarajevo is meant to be a private museum examining bridge building all over the world, taking into account the evolution of bridges from engineering, construction and architectural points of view.  The Museum would also examine land and air bridges and the importance that they have played in the interrelations between people and peoples. Of course, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s own bridges, several of which have been standing since the mid-1500s, would have a special place in the museum.

It would be a place for visitors to learn about the important role that bridges play in our lives on a daily basis. However, the Museum would also, as
Sarajevo is the European Jerusalem, extend to the psychological bridges that exist between people, where issues surrounding communication and understanding are equally important.

The Museum would be multi-faceted, hosting a Dialogue centre, where companies, students and politicians can learn about non-violent conflict resolution and negotiation. In addition, the Museum would also have a children’s centre where children could play the entire year using the bridge as a motif for their play.
